My parents must have done the same. I'm Abbie, and I grew up with people calling me Abigail, or even Abbie-gail (actually having the E sound in it), and asking me if it's short for Abigail, and it used to make me mad. I apparently stomped my foot and said, "It's just plain Abbie!" and apparently said it a lot.

well, I'd call my DS's "little gentleman" but that's just too many syllables for a nick name, so it gets shortened to "little man." I call my DD "little lady." They ARE little gentlemen and a lady at heart so I call them that.
