Diaper Swappers

My daughter woke up screaming her head off this morning. I changed her diaper (which smelled very strong of ammonia) and she has blisters and burns all over her bottom. What do I do to treat her bottom? I am not sure what to do. Should I put her in disposables for a few days? I am so done with aios they are the worst with detergent buildup! Thanks ladies!

I would put some ointment on such as A&D. My favorite is bag balm. If you have different kinds of diapers(pocket, prefolds) use those with a liner. I would strip and bleach AIOs.

Neosporin Plus helped DS a lot. He got that a lot as a baby. We used sposies while it healed. Be careful, the blisters will become open sores sometimes. I always put Neosporin Plus on him (the plus is a pain reliever) and if it was open would tape clean dry gauze at every change to keep poop from getting in.

NO! Don't bleach your AIOs!! We get them with our overnights as well, and we use pockets exclusively at night. I'm not sure what is causing it. But I've taken to a few extra rinses when I wash. I recently switched from homemade soap and/or charlie's to regular soap again. Not sure if that's part of the problem.

I also notice that if his bum isn't really wiped off and cleaned very well during his am diaper change that it gets worse throughout the day, but if we are sure to clean him off it doesn't get worse.

I use CJ's Butt Butter exclusively.

My guess would be that you're using natural detergent. They seem to cause build-up, stinkies and ammonia after a few months of use. I highly recommend using regular tide, 1/4-1/2 the recommended amount for your machine.

ETA: Nevermind I just saw in another thread that you're using Tide f&c. I agree with the vinegar/oxyclean rinse and I'd try regular tide instead of f&c. Jmho, though.

Also, when I needed to strip I used RG and poured in vinegar with it. Did that twice with another cycle of plain water. Worked every time for us. Vinegar reacts with RG like it does baking soda.
