Need advice on shower?

Ok, so a friend of mine begged to throw me a shower since this is my first boy and I didnt get a shower with my second baby. So finally I consented and sent her the invite list. She waited to mail the invites out about 1.5 wks before the shower (which is this weekend). So needless to say, only one person has RSVP'd. I feel like she didnt put much thought into it and I have no idea why she waited sooo long to mail them out.

Here is the dilemma: I know I should buy a hostess gift for her but I dont want to spend too much b/c now I will have to buy most of the things I need since Im sure the one person who RSVP'd wont be buying me more than one gift..lol. What kind of gift should I get her? What did you guys give your hostess'?

Re: Need advice on shower?

I had this same problem... I had 2 showres (only about 4 weeks ago) and NO ONE showed up to either because the hostesses kind of threw it together.... although both were adament to throw me one!

RIght now at Michael's craft store they have a whole bunch of $1 rubber duckie stuff in their dollar section. I just bought about $5 worth of stuff each and got a little wicker basket (the CHEAP "laundry basket type) at Walmart in the plastic flower section. We filled most of hte basket up with stuffing (luckily we had just unpacked the crib to be made.. LOTS of packign stuff there!) and had some blue easter grass we bought on clearence and wrapped up the baskets all cute like. It turned out alright....they made out better than I did!

Here's a pic of the finished product:

I"m just happy it's garage sale season! Yeesh,.

Re: Need advice on shower?

It's beyond me! I felt bad because it was just me, my mom (who flew in from California to COME to the showers) and the hostess at both of the showers. So, I felt bad and let's be honest, it doesn't do wonders on teh self-esteem when NO ONE shows up. The hostess was embarrased. My mom was upset FOR me because she knows how much we really kind of needed the showers...

Just one big mess. There's always hope for AFTEr your little one is born people will give you clothes, giftcards, right??

Re: Need advice on shower?

I hope. My family is not the giving type. They just dont think of those types of things. It wasnt a big deal with the last one b/c she was a girl so I used my 3yr olds clothes and I still had almost all the equipment, carseats and such. But this one is a boy and I need clothes, a new carseat at the least. But hopefully some more people will RSVP.

Re: Need advice on shower?

This is what happend to me. A while back I wasn't sure if I would have a baby shower for this baby. My mom had thrown me my last 2 baby showers and they were great I had got so much stuff. My husband spoke to her when I was 6 months to see if she would do it again and she said she would but it was still early. She said she would let him know when. I have always had my showers around now 8 months and my dh was wondering why my mom hasn't mentioned it. He called her and she said she doesn't think she can do it this year, because she is in a wedding June 10th and to much is going on. What does she think I am going to have a baby every year!!! This is most likely our last baby.
Me and dh are upset because he could of asked his parents to throw one for me. He said he doesn't know what to do because know one in his family threw one before. I am disappointed in my mom. My inlaws have done so much to help me and dh. They are even going to stay with us when the baby is born to help me with Baby Javier who will be 23 months old then.

So my dh took it upon himself to send out invites for 06/17 and we have about 15 people who rsvp already. I had also received gifts in the mail from friends who can't attend. Did you create a baby regisrty? My dh just sent out the invites last week and I took it upon myself to email everyone that i am having a shower on 06/17 and hope they will attend.

Re: Need advice on shower?

My family only believes in a baby shower for the first baby regardless of how far apart the next one is and if it is a different sex. I had a massive shower for my son and got everything. Heck, I was 16 and people felt bad so they over bought and I needed nothing for the first year or so. Fast forward 7 1/2 LONG years. I finally got pregnant with #2 after serious female issues and 3 specialists telling me I would probably never concieve again. As you can imagine I got rid of everything plus it was a girl the second time around. My family didn't care, I got one for the first and that was all that mattered to them. Thankfully my friends and co workers threw me a nice little shower where I got all clothes and bath stuff but nothing big or that I really needed (like a car seat) so dear daddy took me on a shopping spree for most of what I needed and dh's best friend (yes, a guy) got me a big fat gift card to Babies R Us to get the rest. After I had dd I got rid of everything as I had a horrible pregnancy (the baby and I had a lot of medical problems and dd was not expected to survive), I thought I would never want to got through that again. Here I am, nearly 4 years later and having another girl (healthy thus far) and there will be no shower. My in laws who have never bought a single baby item for our dd have yet to offer even though I have hinted. My mom hasn't offered either, thankfully though daddy is coming through again and said to let him know what I need and we'll go shopping for it. I try to get what I need here and there at mom2mom sales and garage sales so I am doing pretty well so far. I have learned over and over agina to never count on anything until it is right in front of you. I would love to hope that people will come over and visit and bring an outfit, blanket or whatever but I am sure only my one sister in law will.
