Talking The birds and bees... for 3 year olds.

This is the conversation I had with my 3 year old:

DD: Mum, I have a baby in my tummy too.

Me: Well, you can pretend you do, but you don't really have a baby, you have to be a grown-up first before you can get a baby in your tummy.

DD: Mum, how does a baby get into your tummy?

Me: Well, you see... the baby has to have a daddy first. I have a husband and he is the daddy of you, S and the new baby.

DD: (confused look), but how does it get in there?

Me: Well, when a mummy and daddy love each other, they make a baby in the mom's tummy.

DD: But Aunty K. has a husband, why doesn't she have a baby in her tummy?

Me: (Sigh) some people don't want a baby just yet.

DD: Why not? I want her to have a baby too.

Me: (SIGH...)

DD: Well, how does the baby get out of your tummy?

Me: When it grows too big to fit, it has to come out through my bottom area.

DD: EWWWW!! That's where poo comes out!!

Me: No, it comes through the front-bottom, the vagina.

DD: HAHAHAHA, that's where wee-wee comes out!! The baby will get wee-wee on it!

Me: Oh L. When you're bigger you'll understand!!

So cute! My girls were all in the room when I delivered my 1 y/o and my 5 y/o still talks about it. She says she didn't like all the blood hehe

I am planning on having a homebirth so as long as it's not when she's asleep I think she'll be there! I am a little worried she might freak out though, so I will have somebody to take the kids away if it gets too much for either of us! She was very verbal (almost 2) right before my YDD was born, and I showed her a few birth videos then, she used to always ask me to watch 'the lady in the bathtub movie'. LOL. But I think because it was over a year ago and she was so little she has forgotten!

Re: The birds and bees... for 3 year olds.

I teach preschool (3 year classroom) and one day there was a conversation that went like this...:

Kid 1: Mrs. P, how'd you get that big fat belly?
Kid 2: She ate a baby. Mrs. P ate a baby!
Kid 1: Oh.
Kid 3: No she didn't silly. God magically puts babies in mommys' tummys.
Kid 1: Oh.

Love the little kiddos.

Re: The birds and bees... for 3 year olds.

My FAVORITE is my niece. She was five and I was pregnant and she asked how he got in there and I told her to go ask her mom because I didn't think it was my place to have the conversation. She knew daddys helped get it in there, but she couldn't figure it out. So she sat there and thought and thought about it, and then she announced her findings. She said daddies must have a magic wand that they get out to put the baby in the mommy's tummy, and then they put it away again I still don't think she knows how close she was to getting it right!

Re: The birds and bees... for 3 year olds.

My girls are four and newly three now. They asked their dad where babies come from, and he told them that daddy has special baby seeds that he plants in in mommies belly button, and then the baby grows until it is big enough to come out.
