I said no...unless plant names are going to be your thing. In that case, that's kind of cute. I like naming themes (birds, plants, etc.) better than letters (everybody having a "D" name).

I don't mind the plant thing so much as the "Holly and the Ivy" song. But really, how many of her friends will know my name? It might be kind of cute. I grew up with a bunch of Christmas songs/jokes every year.

I voted yes. I like the name Ivy and don't think it's a big deal that your name is Holly. Just beware, my friend named her daughter Ivy and she got multiple Ivy plants in the hospital after the birth.

I'd be more inclined to sing "Poison Ivy", originally by The Coasters & covered in the '60's by...The Hollies

. It's about an STD, which would put it out of the running for me. Now, your DD's friends won't know the song; in all likelihood, their parents won't know the song. It would only be out for me b/c I would forever think of it as "my daughter is named after a song about an STD"...I just don't think I could do it. And "Poison Ivy" reminds me of the Drew Barrymore movie from the '90's about a very bad girl.

In general, I like the name Ivy; I just can't get past the negative connotations I have with it based on media associations.

I have a friend named Holly and her daughter is Ivy. Her son Drew's middle name is another plant that I cannot think of right now... But I think it's adorable! And I love the name Ivy!

I say go for it! We had to make a similar decision with our most recent babe (go with a name that is similar to another family name) and are SO happy we did it...

Every name will practically have a song that features it! I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has sung that terrible "sara" song to me from the 80's. ugh.
