Re: only 27 weeks and water broke how long till you went into labor?
My 2nd pregnancy my water broke at 33weeks and my daughter was delivered at 34weeks. The baby next to her in the NICU was a 32weeker who's bag broke at 29weeks so it is possible to stay pregnant for a long time after as long as you avoid all internal exams and stay hydrated. They are already doing antibiotics and betamethasone shots so that's the biggest battle. My 3rd pregnancy my water broke at 33weeks and I stayed pregnant less than 24hours after. But that's not always the case with every labor. I actually had huge gushes instead of a tiny trickle and I was contracting right away and my daughter started to become distressed from the lack of fluid. They decided to deliver her because she wasn't reacting well to the lack of fluid around her.

Re: only 27 weeks and water broke how long till you went into labor?
I have read stories of moms where their water breaks very early, and they are very careful to prevent infections and either the sac seals itself, or it doesn't. Either way, the baby can be born safely in many cases quite a while after the sac has broken. A trickle is definitely better than a gush; it might seal itself back up. I hope that they stay in there for a while!

This is the latest from her - the poor thing. My heartaches for her!
I am having some contractions. Yes they took me off the meds for contractions, and they now have me on antibiotics to fight infection so I can stay pregnant longer! I am glad I'm having twins, because I honestly don't think I can go thru this again!!! I had a rough night last night, I only slept a few hours. I was up all night with contractions, on and off the monitor, drs and nurses in and out. And finally when I got back to sleep around 730 this morning, I was woken up to a big gush of fluid coming out! I was hoping to nap today, but the steroid shots make it hard to sleep!!! I can't win lol!! I am glad their ultrasound went well today! I really needed that!

When I was hospitalized on bedrest with my twins I shared a bathroom with a mom who's water was ruptured for 10wks. They kept her inclined on strict bedrest and on IV abx. They all ended up with infections after the birth and spent time in the hospital. One was born vaginally and the 2nd wouldn't descend so they had to do a c/s. She was glad they only had to deal with IV abx and not 24wk twins who in 1997 had very little chance of survival let alone a normal life.
It can be done but delivery at 28 wks would require 10+ wks of NICU time so every week she can keep them in is less time in the NICU! Keep us posted please!!
