Antibiotics and prenatals and TMI-really gross

Soooo, I got a pretty bad ear infection thanks to an ant and am stuck taking an antibiotic 4 times a day. I'm also attempting to take a prenatal pill because the chewable where making me puke. Here's my new, interesting and gross problems.

I can swallow the pills mostly ok, but the water comes back up. I can't even say I'm vomiting, because I don't think it even makes it to my stomach. It's like the water and pill go down, but the water gets stuck half way down my throat and comes back up. The pill continues on its merry way to my digestive track. Since I've got 5 pills to take, that's happening 5 times a day. I tried just dry swallowing them, but let's just say that's even worse...and messier.

Next up, is the stomach upset. As if morning sickness wasn't bad enough, I feel like my food and the pills aren't getting digested. Everything sits like a rock on my stomach. I've tried eating yogurt, but can't keep it down (among other things). Here's the super duper gross part, so I recommend skipping this part if you have a weak stomach:
My BMs are coming out w/ some undigested food in it. Like I can identify a lot of it, including parts of the antibiotic gelcaps. Really, I need to chew better.
What the heck can I do? I've got another 7 days of the antibiotics to take I just want my stomach back. Is there another food I could try to get the natural flora in my stomach healthy again?

Sorry for grossing you out, but I'm getting desperate.

Tell your dr...if you're allergic to the medication (the poo issue could be a symptom), then it won't do you any good. Hope you're on the mend soon!

Well, my ear is def. getting better, even if the rest of me isn't. I can hear more out of it every day, the swelling, pressure and pain are almost completely gone. I really think it's just killing off all the good bacteria in my stomach/intestines and I need to get that back, but because of morning sickness the yogurt is out. I'll still call the doc of course, but no one's in the office till Monday.

Try getting some probiotic pills. They make a chewable kind (mine are strawberry) and a pill kind. they should help you regrow some good bacteria but may not be so easy to swallow. Sorry! But I'm glad your ear is getting better, I read your post about that!!

In my first trimester, when I was taking abx for a sinus infection, I got probiotic pills (powdered form, in a gelcap) and opened the gelcap and sprinkled them on whatever would stay down that day - mostly ramen noodles. Anyway, they worked wonders for me.

Probiotics are a great idea- but you need to take them in between taking the antibiotics. Bio-kult is a really good one.
