Re: If you breastfeed and take antidepressants...

They prescribed Lexapro for me because I had a bad time with Zoloft in the past but I'm not taking it. I'm just dealing with it for now.

I actually have some percocets that get me through the "rough" times and I feel safer taking those on occasion than a pill every day. Hope that makes sense.

Good luck mama!

Wellbutrin through pregnancy and breastfeeding. My daughter is two, still nursing 4+ times a day, and totally fine. I'll probably be on the Wellbutrin forever, mine isn't PPD either. (((hugs)))

My old OB said that Zoloft is the first med they try for a breastfeeding mom. Very safe. Lexapro is very common also.
I hope this works for you.

Good luck!!
The nurse prac at the ob practice, my old ob, the counselor they referred me to, and my son's pediatrician all refused to let me on Effexor, which I KNOW works for me.

Mine is not for PPD, either. I have some general depression, but the Zoloft is mainly to control severe panic attacks.

Re: If you breastfeed and take antidepressants...

I agreed to try Zoloft again - I was on it in the past, but it didn't work well for me. Since I'm still breastfeeding and we're TTC, they felt this was the best/safest med for now. If it doesn't work, we will change it.

I was one Zoloft for 18 months after having ds. It's hard to wean off of for some (I was in that group---major vertigo). My ob said there were some questionable new studies coming out about Zoloft and told me to wean off of it before ttc again. I was off for a few months before getting pregnant.
I would really look hard at taking something while nursing momma/TTC---But when you need it you need it and PPD is NOT something to mess with!

This is so true. The benefit must outweigh the risk.

I haven't taken anything in years and personally dislike taking any meds while pregnant or nursing, including tylenol I feel like you just never know what effect it could have.

While I don't have PPD, I do realize that I need meds at this time. That doesn't mean that I won't worry about it's affect on my baby, but luckily he's 20 months and doesn't nurse frequently during the day.

I'm on zoloft and while it helps, it has been giving me bad insomnia. I'm only on 75mg, but I read that this can happen to some people (29%), especially those w/ocd and intrusive thoughts.
It's horrible, but my current psych is not very bfing friendly and doesn't seem like the type to try other meds.

However once our new insurance kicks in I'm going else where.

Its funny because I was on zoloft previously 5 yrs ago and don't remember having this much trouble falling asleep.
I guess my brain chemistry continues to change, yea me :-\

I hope it works for you.

Are you taking it at night?
I didn't have insomnia, but if woken I was hateful, loud, cussing, etc., but I never knew it. I switched to taking it in the morning-mid morning and it got better.

Oh my. This is not what I wanted to hear!
I do have OCD, but am also dealing with sleep deprivation which is making things much worse.
