We didn't start to CD until the babe was 4 months old and we started with 12 Mediums and he still wears mediums at 17 months old. We had to was every second day and we supplemented with sposies for nights and outings midway because I hadn't done enough research to figure out what worked for our heavy wetter either.
So now we are fulltime cding again but I use prefolds at home with wool and FBs when we go out with the prefold as a doubler. And fitted with wool at night.

We used 22 mediums from about age 4 months till 20 month (They still fit her). We used one super stuffed for night time.

We washed every other day, and I'd send 6 to daycare everyday.

I started with 12 FB's and 6 HH's. I didn't like the HH's at all, so I started to venture in to other things. I still love my FB's and it was fine for me to only have 12 because I wash every day, whether I need to ro not. Grosses me out to wait longer LOL

When my stash WAS all FBs, I had about 20. That was a good amount.

I actually CD'd a newborn with 12 pockets! I had 18 plus 2 dozen infant PF's & 4 covers to start BUT I couldn't for the life of me figure out the pf's and 6 of the pockets were swaddlebees which I ended up absolutely hating. So that left us with 7 FB, 2 HH, and 3 drybees. We made it work. I sold the SB's and bought 3 more FB but didn't get them until she was almost out of smalls. It's doable but I was washing ALL THE TIME!!!

In pockets, I like to have about 24-26 of a size. 2 for the diaper bag & 3 full days of diapers + a few extras if I cant wash when I want to.

Right now my stash is about 75% FBs and 25% fitteds/wool (building that slowly).

I'm curious about the MF towel trick too...and, pardon my newness.. what does MF stand for? Thanks!

don't have enough of a stash yet to say what works for us...we have a variety of different things right now while we figure out what we like and works best!

MF stands for microfiber and the 'trick' is simply by wrapping a MF towel around a hemp insert. This combo seems to work for most of us mamas as it's trim yet absorbant!

The MF can be bought in most stores at the auto section (Walmart has them in 3 packs, but they're small 14x14) OR just today I found out that Home Depot sells a 12-pack at the cleaning section for 10$! (And they're the big 16x16 ones)
