For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
Hello,
I'm expecting my first child and wanting to breastfeed. I know breast is best, and I'd like to breastfeed for at least a year, longer if possible. The thing confusing me is that I'm also hearing about "starting solids" from 6 months. So... how long did you exclusively breastfeed? And by "exclusively" we mean breast milk ONLY, and nothing else going in baby's mouth, right? |

Ebf means different things for everyone. For me it means exclusively breast milk and no formula. I did not start my son on solids until nearly 8 months old. After that we still continued to breastfeed until 17 months.

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
We EBF for about 6 months then DD started solids. We continued BFing till she was 16 months then she lost interest. Sad day for me when she weaned!
There is also babyled weaning that you could look into. I never tried it but am intrigued with this baby OTW. |

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
DD started solids at 6 mo. We also do BLW. She didn't a lot of food til well over a year. She still nurses and will be 3 in July. We'll probably start solids later with DS. He's 4.5 months and has reflux. I suspect he has a diary sensativity/intoleranc.

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
I did it for 6 months (LO's 10 + months now) and slowly started solids after that. LO's very resistant to formula so all his milk needs still comes from pumped BF now. I plan to BF till he decides against it but no longer than 24 months.

We exclusively breast fed until 6.5 months. We introduced solids slowly, and even now at 10 months, she doesn't eat much.

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
To me, EBF means only breastmilk, no formula. DD will be 3 months on the 9th, and we plan on starting solids around 6 months but we're hoping to breastfeed until shes ready to stop. DS was EBF until 5 1/2 months, and then he started eating solids but still only got breastmilk to drink until he was 13 months.

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
We're approaching the 6 month mark and I think I'll just see how he's doing once we reach that milestone. I can see solids are in the near future, but I want to feel it out a little bit. We have never introduced any formula or even really used a bottle, it has been breast only.

Hi mama congrats on your baby! Yes it is recommended breast milk only for 6 months but until at least a year breast milk will continue to be your baby's primary source of nutrition, even if you start introducing solids around 6 months (later or earlier depending on what you choose and what your baby wants- these are just general guidelines of course).
For our babies we started solids around 5 months with my DS then 7 months with my DD. Neither of them took to it right away. DS ate solids 3x a day or so by maybe 10 months and DD is 9 months so I'm not sure what she will do yet. DS also continued to nurse until he was 2 years old but also ate lots of foods by then. Good luck with everything!

Re: For how long did you exclusively breast feed?
We started some solids at 7 months, but no baby food and mostly fruits, veggies, and yogurt (whole milk). Oh, and egg yolk. Even then she wasn't a big eater and didn't really start eating a lot of calories from solids until I started weaning at 16 months.
