My baby gained 3 lbs

Ds gained 3 lbs since his 1 month check up. He is 11.5 now. They said he was a little heavier but he had a cloth diaper on so I adjusted for the fluffiness. He gets an occasional bottle of formula when dh has him because I'm trying to store milk for when I'm at work but 2 oz of formula is not sustaining him. I am! That's a really amazing feeling. Dr asked how many ounces he was eating at a time and I told her I BF and she then says well that is great we usually don't see this big of a growth spurt on most breast babies. He also grew an inch in length

That is a strange thing for the Dr. office to say. I know plenty of exclusively BF babies who gain that fast, some have been 16-18lbs by 4 months (not mine ) My 2nd daughter gained 2lbs and grew 2 inches her first month on exclusively breastmilk. So strange how the Dr.'s always seem amazed that babies can grow on what they were meant to eat.

My daughter was 6lb 15oz at birth and at 5 weeks she is already up to 10lb 5 oz. I decided I must make cream, not milk.

Way to go! DS is 15 lbs at 4 months, he was under 7 at birth! DD was always in the 75th percentile for weight as an infant. I love chubby, healthy babies

I was gonna say the same thing--strange thing for the Dr to say. My DD was 20 lbs at 4 months. We had a new doctor and the first thing he said was "breastfed, right?" lol

Lol. Yeah, my daughter was 6 13 at birth, 6 lb 5 oz by day 4, and then at her 3.5 week checkup was...almost 10 pounds! So in less than 4 weeks she gained 3.5 pounds, and continued with that pace for a while. By 5 months she was 20 pounds. The doctor just said "well, you're certainly a successful breastfeeding mom!"

Makes me wonder if this one will gain as quickly as she did...

When we went to her one week visit she had already gained a good chunk (I think a pound-ish) and the dr said, "wow, I guess your milk came in, huh?"

That is such a great feeling. I remember going to dd 2 month check up. She weighed in at 12 lbs 13 oz. she was 6lbs 5oz at birth and came home at 6 even. Its nice getting that reassurance that baby is getting what she needs to grow You are doing a great job.
