mastitis!
so i have mastitis. it really hurts, yesterday it was absolutely excruciating. like i was bedridden it hurt so much. today is better, but now the side of my breast is red and swollen and i'm still uncomfortable. i've been taking phytolacca decandra, pumping, massaging the area and using hot compresses. unfortunately i'm still EPing he hasn't started nursing yet =( anything else i can do to speed up recovery?

Re: mastitis!
watch for a fever. if you spike a fever call your care provider and get a script. For now just keep pumping as much as possible and massage

Re: mastitis!
i had a fever of 100.1 yesterday but no fever today. i'm not getting much milk out of the infected breast, but i'm still meeting LO's demand thankfully.

Re: mastitis!
Feel better! Mastitis is the worst
I always had the best luck clearing the clog by soaking in a hot bath with epsom salt, and hand expressing while simultaneously massaging behind the clog. Do that as often as possible. When the clog is gone your breast will still be very sore and tender for a few days, but the flu-like symptoms will be gone and the milk will be flowing normally from all the ducts (watch the flow in your pump horn).

I tried to pump as much as possible and as I pumped I would rub/massage the heck out of the clogged part. I would also take a hot shower with the hot water directed at the clog and rub then too. Pumping right after the shower was good. Then I'd immediately put on our wheat heat (heating pad thing) and rub more. I hope you feel better soon!
