How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?

I'm 34 weeks and just had a sono today. They have estimated that our little boy already weighs 7lbs 5oz and I have 4 weeks to go. How many of you had an estimate turn out wrong and which way was it wrong (weighed less or more at birth)?

they can be off by as much as two lbs either way. You cannot accurately tell the weight and size of an unborn child.

I had an us with my dd the day before she was born. It was at maternal fetal medicine with the fancy machine. I was 36 weeks and 6 days. They estimated her at 9lbs 3 oz! I was induced that day and she was born the next at 7lbs 3 oz.

My Ds I had an us the day he was born. They esimated him at 8 lbs 4 oz. He as born 10 hours later at 8 lbs 2 oz. It's really hit or miss with weight. I wouldn't worry about it honestly.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?

I didn't have one particularly close to delivery, but at my 20 week ultrasound they said he was measuring a week and a half ahead of my edd and at a 31 week ultrasound they estimated his weight to be 4lb something. He was born at 41 weeks + 4 days and was 6lb 14oz so it seems both of those estimates weren't very accurate.

This. I think some sono techs are better at guessing than others, but I've known SO many people personally who were told their babies were 9-10lbs and the babies ranged from 5lbs-7lbs.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?

all 4 of our estimates have been off..our first babe was supposed to be 5# at 34 weeks...but was only 3# 6.2oz...his head was tracking with the measurements of a 5# babe, but the rest of him was malnourished...(he was born 34 weeks)

My 3rd child at 34 weeks was expected to be over 6 or 7 pounds, they projected her to gain enough weight that if she went full term, which she did, that she would weigh over 9#. She came out 3 days before her dd at only 6#5oz....

I had one and they estimated her to be right at 7 lbs. She was born the next day at 7lbs 1oz. I do know that they are not always accurate...I think the tech just got lucky with her guess

With my first I was told 8lbs and he was 9.2. With my third I was told told 8.13 and he was 8.1. My third baby was at a high risk office and the tech was supposedly very good with measurements. Third baby was OP too.
