Microwave for Lipase Issues??
Hey Mamas! I am staying in a hotel for a while waiting to move into my new house this Friday. I would love to be able to pump and store my milk for my son so that I could have a babysitter for at least part of the unpacking fiasco. I don't have access to a stove, and I can't just store my milk because it goes bad in a few hours in the fridge due to lipase.
Can I use a microwave for lipase issues and if so, how??? Thank you mamas!!

Re: Microwave for Lipase Issues??
microwaving breastmilk denatures the milk quite a bit. I have no idea how a microwave could help lipase issues, though. I just know that microwaves tend to destroy nutrients, and that's why you're not ever supposed to microwave breastmilk.

I know it kills a lot of the benefits but so does scalding it. I just wish a,microwave could keep the lipase from spoiling the milk

Re: Microwave for Lipase Issues??
I'm sure microwaving will to the same thing as heating on the stove, but I don't know how long or anything. I actually searched for the same thing when I was pumping, but I didn't find anything.
Could the babysitter just bring you the baby when he gets hungry? |

And your lo wont take a bottle with the liapse? Some babies dont mind it. I would try that route before scolding it. Maybe if it is warmed up enough they wont mind.

He wont touch it at all. 24 hours in the fridge and the milk stinks like rotten fish! It is awful. It didnt start happening until he was 4 or 5 months old so I am just glad when I was pumping a lot and supplementing that we didnt have this problem.

Re: Microwave for Lipase Issues??
I have lipase issues too, and found this- not microwave, but with a bottle warmer:
http://simplyrebekah.com/2010/05/03/...g-breast-milk/ Scroll down for links to articles about why not to microwave- it IS different than scalding on the stove. http://forums.llli.org/showthread.ph...cessive-Lipase

Lipase doesn't actually spoil it, it just makes it taste and smell funny.

It makes mine completely undrinkable Like can't get the taste out of your mouth, dry heave horrible. So in my case, I would call it spoiled. Not even my yellow lab would drink it
