Has penicilin affected anyones milk supply?

I have strep throat and am on penicillin for it. Just wondering if it has affected anyone's supply?

Penicillin can give you diarrhea. Dehydration will affect your supply. Otherwise, penicillin should not do anything to your supply.

Okay, thanks! I've been trying to eat and drink enough. I'm just trying to figure out what going on with my son, he's extra fussy. It could be any number of things though. Thanks for easing my mind on that one!

Some nursing babies will have diarrhea when their mothers are on penicillin. If his bowels are fine, that's probably not what is bothering him. You may need to drink more than usual if you are sick though.

Ive been on antibiotics for over a month. In the first two weeks it killed my milk supply. I can no longer breastfeed. Im currently on a 2000mg daily of penicillin vk.

Medication safety from Kellymom.com

Penicillin type medications are considered an L1 (the safest rating for breastfeeding).

If your supply tanked, it was more likely the result of the infection itself and its effect on your body than penicillin.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm still not sure what's going on with my son, he is nursing like crazy. Like 20 to 30 minutes each side and he's still not done. I'm just not sure if it's comfort sucking or what. He is almost four months, so it could be a growth spurt or even teething. How do you know when your milk supply goes down/away?

I am currently on penicillin but when i lost my supply i was on keflex. I have heard it isnt uncommon to lose supply from antibiotics.
