Here's what LactMed Says about possible decrease in supply.

If you read the article, you will note that a dosage of 1320 mg may affect supply. Usual adult dosing is 250-500mg. That means a dosage of 2.5-5X usual dosing. It further says the "reduction" in supply was not known to affect the infant.

If you are still concerned, please contact infantrisk.com

Re: Has penicilin affected anyones milk supply?

OP, it's extremely unusual to have your milk supply suddenly drop this far into your lactation cycle as long as you are taking in enough fluids. If room temperature, activity levels, etc remain fairly constant then you probably have a good idea of what your fluid intake needs to be. It's not uncommon for mothers to need extra fluids when they are sick, but if you are certain your fluid intake is good, then you should have enough milk.

If he's teething, he's probably a little fussy even when he's not at the breast. Comfort nursing is usually accompanied by something going on in the baby's life that requires comfort (a parent started working, a parent leaves town, discord between parents causes s baby emotional distress), if nothing like that is happening, it's probably not comfort nursing either.
Growth spurts usually last a few days or a week before baby's nursing patterns go back to normal (which may be a "new" normal) because the mother's milk supply has caught up with the new demands.
If those descriptions don't help, maybe you can give more specifics on what your nursling is doing to help us out. :-)

I'm on 1000 mg total. It's probably fine, I'm just worried because he won't take a bottle or even pacifier, so life would be miserable for all of us if my supply went away. Seems like the people who lost their supply on antibiotics were much more sick than me. I'm just trying to eat and drink enough and maybe once it's easier to swallow pills I'll add fenugreek again. I think it might be a growth spurt though. He is waking up every two hours at night again also. I was getting at least one three to four hour span in there, not so much now. It's only been a couple of nights though. My husband is on vacation right now and our schedule is messed up.

It's possible that it just is making him feel funny, and so he's comfort nursing. I really wouldn't take antibiotics for strep, personally. Antibiotics are generally my last resort, after trying other supplements to kick up my immune system.

What other supplements would you take? I've only been on the meds since Saturday and there has been a ton of improvement. I don't really like taking medicine but I could barely swallow anything. Now it's much better. I couldn't even swallow pills, so even vitamins were out for a few days. I would much rather take something natural if possible.
