Tips for a better latch?

Anyone have any suggestions to get a 7mo to latch better? It seems she's gotten a little bit "lazy" and not opening her mouth wide anymore. Thanks!

Re: Tips for a better latch?

That's hard once they've gotten "stuck in their ways" so I'd nip it in the bud before she gets used to it. As much as it stinks every time she doesn't open wide enough or latch right, unlatch and and wait until she's gotten a wide open mouth. At that age my babies would also let me adjust (ie, flip out their lips etc.) while they were nursing too. Any chance she's teething, mine always seemed to clamp a bit harder when teething and it took a bit to get used to the feel of nursing with teeth too...

Just tell her each time, "Open big and wide like Mama," and show her with your mouth by opening really big. Don't allow her to latch on until she opens big, then quickly put her on the breast so she gets a big mouthful
