Another sister (I've got 6 siblings) has her dog on fb. She plays games through that account but it was set up as a passive aggressive reaction to the young cousins on fb.
I had to create a special group so my young cousins/friends didn't have access to everything I sway. But I really don't put too much stuff on there anyway. I'm a boring twitterer/FBer.

When they're old enough they could use FB, not Twitter, and it'd be strictly for talking to family until they proved they could be trusted with more freedom.

That would be nice, to just not have to deal with it But I voted yes, my kids will be able to have one when they are old and mature enough for it. Their access would be conditional on mature behavior

Re: Would you EVER let your child have a FB or Twitter?

I'd probably set up a family email address so everything could get filtered through that.

Honestly, my four year old step son has his own iPod touch so he can FaceTime with his mom or dad or grandparents whenever he asks too. While I personally think four is too young it's a great idea for a slightly older kid to keep in contact with other family members.

I would when they are teenagers but closely monitored.

yep all 4 of my teens have FB and some also have twitter. you don't have the just plain "yes" as an answer and I know PLENTY of parents who let their kids have FB and they aren't on FB or anything. My sis doesn't monitor any of that with her kids. I don't know that I "monitor" mine either. I am on FB and see their stuff on my feed, but I don't seek it out.

Yes and I will keep an eye on it until they're 18. I will honestly be very lenient with technology and I really don't see it going away any time soon. I literally keep all my photos on facebook (and my computer). It's how I communicate with most of the people I know. I think as with anything technology is what you make it.

yep, this. Oldest is 4.5, so I have a long time before it's an issue, and by then it will be something else I'm sure

Re: Would you EVER let your child have a FB or Twitter?

Yes. My oldest (almost 14) has a fb account. I monitor it daily. It's actually been very helpful in letting me know which irl friendships I should encourage and which ones I should make sure come to an end. My dd knows I monitor, but apparently her friends don't think too much about it because they seem to "speak" freely. I do occasionally deactivate her account, for several reasons. Sometimes, I just need a break from all the monitoring. Sometimes she has lots going on and I don't think she needs to be spending time on fb. Sometimes I deactivate it for discipline.

ETA: I used to think I would NEVER let her on fb, but I changed my mind when she was old enough.
