Low temp on toddler

Please for give the mess this post will be. I'm posting on my phone from the floor of DS2's bedroom. He woke up crying about 1.5 hours after he went to bed. It's not terribly uncommon for him, but he didn't quiet down quickly like he normally does. After a few minutes he started crying harder, so I went in to comfort him. He's 2, BTW. Nothing seemed to calm him, so I tried changing his diaper and giving him a cup of water. He seemed calmer, so I laid him back down and left the room. A few minutes later, he's crying again, so I go back in. This time, he's shaking. I thought it was from crying, so I just kept snuggling him when I realized he felt cold. I chekced his temp (ear) multiple times with numbers around 96.3-97.2. This is the second time I've noticed a shaky/low temp episode. It's starting to freak me out. What is happening?

Typos courtesy of my "smart" phone.

My pedi says the ear is notoriously inaccurate. Will he let you take a rectal temp?

all they use in the UK, so not sure why they would say the ear isn't right, you need to make sure it's in all the way.

is this the same child who had the blue episodes? or am I mixing people up?

Yes. Same baby.

I've been Goggling way too much tonight, but I'm calling first thing in the morning for an appt. His symptoms sound very much like low blood sugar. It makes me wonder if he's diabetic. He was premature, had low blood sugar at birth and was born big for his gestation.

I get low BS all the time, like daily. You could test the theory with something sweet.

I don't get a low temp though, it's more mental than physical. But also some folks never notice it when it's low.

low sugar at birth isn't related to diabetes. Don't worry too much about it tonight and ring in the AM.

My one child had a condition where I had to check her for a fever a lot, she would go very low, I asked the doc and no one cared. YMMV but although she had a serious condition at the time, no one thought the low temp was important

My temp and my daughter's are both right at 97 all the time, and that's with an oral or the doctors ear thermometer. I don't trust my home ear one. It always reads really low.

The doctors always say my temp is normal.

All of our temps typically absolutely normal with this thermometer. The only times we've gotten any low temperature readings have been with him during these cold spells.

The nurse wants him in this morning. The said the spells sound like low blood sugar. She concerned that he's had more than one of them.
