Anyone have a successful pregnancy while on Mirena?

Yes niece. It doesn't seem like there's many happy stories of staying pregnant after taking out the mirena. I have no idea how the egg splitting thing happened. To be honest the only time I hear of multiples like this are by using fertility meds not birth control meds lol. It's just crazy. I would be a mess all weekend. And even if it all goes well after taking it out how can you not be scared and stressed for the remainder of the pregnancy? I would never just be able to relax.

This story has really intrigued me! I've been trying to find as much info as I can on the "best" thing to do. I would recommend that your DN gets 2-3 opinions from other Drs and maybe see a high risk pregnancy OB before she moves on with a decision. I've seen conflicting information about Drs saying you have less complications with it staying in than taking it out. Ultimately, I think your DN needs to find peace and be comfortable with whatever she decides. It should be her decision and not the Drs, in the end. I'm sure shes scared and worried but more regrets come in making a quick decision based on fear.

1st- Mirena is just pulled out. I had one. They dont dialate you. Cough and pull
2nd- Mirena has hormones so it works much like the pill to stop ovulation

The worst I could imagine happening is it getting stuck to the babies head, which I have heard of. However, if they offered to take it out, while its a risk, I would. I would not want a quad pregnancy with a Mirena to complicate it more.

Side note, I HATE the IUD. I rarely hear good things about them and Im in the medical field and have had one (I had it for 14 days).

She got it taken out yesterday. Just had normal mild spotting and cramps from them doing it. They did use the tool (I forget what it's called spectrum?, the thing they use for paps) to get in there. The doctor was saying he doesn't think it's going to end well. WTH?! She's changing doctors, she's already told him, She needs to transfer to closer to were she lives anyways. From what it sounds like he's trying to convince her to terminate. Not sounding optimistic at all, I guess because she's had the Mirena in and the hormones getting to the babies but it's only been 10 weeks. Jerk. I know he has to present all the options and of course that is an option but to focus on the negative only seems kinda mean, like she doesn't have enough to worry about idk. At least she's switching doctors and it seems to be going fine so far. Hopefully she will get another U/S soon and see how the babies are doing.

Oh thats terrible! I hope everything is going to be ok! It would be so stressful. I couldn't imagine the prospect of losing 4 babies at one time...((cry))
