Plantains
I got one to try. How do I tell if it's ripe? How do I cook it? Can it be eaten raw? What's the taste like? I'm trying to find my answers through google but thought maybe someone on here would know...

Re: Plantains
Peel it, shred it and fry in oil by the teaspoon full. Called Aranitas I believe and are a Puerto Rican Snack. I also like them served as tostones (green plantain smashed and fried in a skillet. These are both yummy. I am sure you can find recipes online using the real names of each.

Re: Plantains
i've never made them myself, but i've had them before at a friend's house. she sliced them up and pan fried them in oil, then sprinkled with salt
they were more flavorful than a potato, but not in a fruity sort of way i'm pretty sure they're not good raw, though.

Re: Plantains
I tried it both ways just now - delicious! Thanks! Going to have to get more now
my children didn't like it so much, but I think they might with a dip like ketchup or homemade guacomole. Will have to see next time.
