There are two kinds of regional rate most often used - A and B. The A box is slightly smaller than the MFRB while the B is slightly larger. These are lifesavers - they each cost less than the MFRB and LFRB respectively. Again, it depends where you're shipping to, but I've stuffed 14 pounds of stuff into a RR box A and shipped from San Jose to Los Angeles, for $5.04.
You may not have to stuff things into a RRA. RRA was the same price as reg priority for a package I just shipped within my state. And I could use any box/package I like. Best bet is to check the USPS site. They even have an app!

Yes, but if I hadn't used an RR A box for that particular shipment, but a regular priority based on weight, I'd have paid close to $20, because it weighed around 14 pounds. Because I was able to squeeze everything into the RR A, it was only $5.

My point about the RR boxes is that if your package is heavy enough, it makes sense. Plus the USPS-provided priority boxes are free, and very high quality. It beats having to buy a new box to ship (or reusing an old box that is falling apart, moldy, etc.).

Omg! This was so informative! I totally needed this. I'm so clueless to mailing stuff out, different boxes, and when to use what. I know I've definitely overpayed a few times. Thank you for taking the time out to share your expertise!

Region rate boxes - I ordered a bunch and they are sitting in my living room. Does USPS website - click and ship have these as an option?

I've never noticed it on Paypal.

Correct. Just put the DC generated from click-n-ship into the paypal transaction tracking info, and it will send the buyer the same automated notification.

Bump for some added information regarding classes of shipping, for those completely new to postal services.
