Here is a picture I just took. This one is an older model with just a bit shorter straps, so it doesn't fit as well as the pattern you will get; I added the chest clip and lengthened the straps to fit a wider range.
But when on the front you do need wither the waist tied or the chest clip velcroed for it to stay on well.

Thank you! what notions are needed - a clip or just velcro? anything special besides fabric & thread - and velcro???

You will need about 8 inches of polywebbing, but you can use ribbon or anything similar.
