We love Super Why, Word Girl, Diego, Sesame Street, little Engine that Could, old school Dennis the Menace, the Red Balloon (my 3 year olds favorite), and the old school 1960's Spider-Man cartoons (but not the new ones--too violent for my taste). I'm sure ill think of more...

Are the Backyardigans too young for 5 years? I watch them with my girls, and they love it. The songs are all catchy too!

In addition to some of the other shows mentioned (Strawberry Shortcake, Phineas and Ferb, Dora, Super Why) my DD (4) loves My Little Ponies, Curious George and Dragon Tales.

Dd loves fresh beat band and so does 1 year old dfs. It about teenagers at music school but its really, really cheesy, like sesame street was. Idk how to explain it but definitely a 5 year old level show with lots of singing and dancing. No skanky clothes and all the dance moves are the same for boys and girls so its more like...um...idk. Four tops or the jacksons rather than Mtv spring break. Like together dancing. Lol I'm making this sound lame lol and it is to me but good for a 5 year old for appropriate music and movement.

Re: What's good on Netflix for 5 year olds?
My little ones 2 favorite shows are Dinosaur Train and My Little Ponies. They also like Strawberry Shortcake and Phineas and Ferb. Bonus with P&F is that it's as funny to adults as it is to kids.
Not sure what you have Netflix streaming through, but if you have a Roku, the Disney App now has classic Mickey and Donald and Goofy cartoons. A TON of them. Also, if you have PlayOn (which you can stream through any device that you can stream Netflix) they have a whole PBS channel and a Disney one too. The Disney one has all the Cars Toons and a bunch of other stuff that we don't get to see much because they are too busy with the Cars Toons. The PBS channel on Play On has more Dinosaur Train that Netflix doesn't have.
