I babysat a 9 year-old the other day and felt pretty useless. He was supposed to be sick, but really wasn't. I felt like he was perfectly capable of watching himself for a few hours. If she is okay with it, I say go for it.

im sure that's fine. ds1 was like 8 when he would be left alone for short periods of time. it really depends on the maturity of the child, if they have a way to contact you and the laws of your state.

We grew up on a culdesac in a rural area and my brother was 6-7 and I was 8-9 when my mom started running short errands without us. I'm sure she'd be fine, especially with you still in view of the house.

Agree with this. My sister and I were home alone a lot together with both parents working. We were younger than 10 when we first started being left home alone.
