Re: How to season cast iron?
I just got a pre-seasoned cast iron pan and all the reviewers were mad except for the one review where the person stated they seasoned theirs a bunch of times before using anyways. So for the time being every time I use my oven, I just oil up my cast iron pan and put it in there for awhile. I have yet to use it because I am nervous. I am a first-timer. Also we are vegan (although not 100%) so we don't have lard or bacon grease. I am using canola oil.

Yes, thank you. We're considering the flax method, although I'm running out of time before Mr. Pancake is supposed to get to work. I also have bacon in the fridge... sigh. My pancake dream isn't going to come true, I can feel it.

Re: How to season cast iron?
I have tried to clean my cast iron after use (just water and a good scrub brush) but it still has spots on it and the top even has rust. I put it on the burner after cleaning to get it dry fast. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I still use it, it just doesn't have that nice solid black sheen that I see on others cast iron.
