Hi. I would like to have one glass of wine for thanksgiving. How many bottles do i need to pump before it is safe to breastfeed again? Thanks.

Basically if you "feel" drunk then you should pump and dump. One pump and dump should be fine.
(Many moms in Europe and other places have a glass a wine while BF and there are really no ill effects. Obviously if you get plastered, that is different. )

I plan on having at least one glass. Usually for one glass I will nurse first and then have my glass or I will sip on it over a few hours. No issues at all.

As long as there is no alcohol in your bloodstream while you are nursing (like babe is latched on and suckling) there is no alcohol in your milk. No need to pump and dump unless you will be drinking through a feeding. After DS started seriously sttn (12+ hours) I would have a glass (or two... ) of red after he went down and nurse him the next AM.. No problems.

There is no need to pump & dump milk after drinking alcohol, other than for mom’s comfort — pumping & dumping does not speed the elimination of alcohol from the milk.

Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom’s blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom’s body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.

You can have a glass with no need to pump and dump. It's outdated recommendations for a mom who is not getting DRUNK.
