If you did private domestic infant adoption how much did you pay?

Ours was a family adoption but included 2 states. It has cost around $12k so far! It's still not over. I hope no more fees pop up tho.

My sis and her DH just adopted newborn twin boys a few months ago and she said, altogether, it ended up costing around $1500. I was amazed because I always thought adoption cost waaay more than that!

Our agency fees weren't terrible - about $17K including program fee, match fee, and birth fee - but I wish I'd understood better how much we really needed to have budgeted for attorneys, travel, etc.

I think so far it cost us around $50 for the fingerprints and background checks. Plus the lawyer to finalize in six months will be around $500. That's it. We have the only agency in the country (to my knowledge) that doesn't charge adopting families.

What agency? Do they work with families from other states? Details please!

Somewhere between 3,500-4,000 for everything. Then we got everything back come tax time with the adoption credit.
