Or maybe if she likes bows and getting her hair done you could make her wear it in a very simple, no frills way for awhile? Just tell her that since she made it so the baby can't wear bows neither can she. This would've worked on me as a child cause I was a priss. Don't know if it would phase your DD though.

This is a great idea. Totally wouldn't work for DD though. She hates having her hair done. It would be more of a punishment to have her put her hair in pig tails every day!

Re: I there even an appropriate punishment??

ok - The 13 yr old was knitting (I didn't want to say because I know y'all would all be like "wow" so cool! ) so she wasn't totally paying attention. She did see the 4 yr old with scissors but never saw her actually cutting the baby hair.

I think I am going to take both girls (4 and 13) to get their hair cut....they both have really long hair and never want to get it cut....I *might* imply that they are getting a lot cut...but really they both need a trim, and that would be ALL they would get. And a discussion about WHO is allowed to cut hair (for the 4yr olds benefit). And no more scissors. The 4 yr old cut her own hair already when she was 2....so she knows that this was not good.

Now I have 2 little baggies of hair with "Emma cut her hair"

I would take lots of pictures for posterity and then realize that my 13 year old may not be ready to supervise.

Re: I there even an appropriate punishment??

At my house the biggest offense in that situation would be the lying (is that spelled right?) My kids take what is a minor misdemeanor offense and turn it into much more than that when they lie about it. Although 4 is pretty young--that would be my focus--when confronted about a bad choice own up to it!

Yes this. If the 13yr old was left in charge a talking to is needed(keeping in mind that I, myself have failed to keep them out of trouble 100% of the time) but I wouldnt do much more then that. What the 4yr would get in trouble for the most is lieing. No scissors for sure but then another punishment added for not being truthful.

I would say no sissors for the 4 year old for awhile.

I would not punish the 13 year old. I am adult and have looked away and things have happened.
