At what age did you make your child wipe themselves?

I let my DS1 wipe when he was 4, but we'd still have to do it, too. He still doesn't do a great job and he's almost 8...but he's getting better

We did the you wipe I will check around 4. She did a really bad job so we let her use flush-able wipes and things improved a ton. She is now 5 and does great, no checking needed.

We keep cloth wipes by the sink in the bathroom so the kids can use them wet or dry as needed. That way the kids aren't wasting tons of TP and can take care of themselves most of the time.

we also did the you wipe, us check. More like DH would check. I told DS he had to wipe his own booty because when he went to school his teacher wouldn't help him. But I agree getting flushable wipes or using wet cloth wipes help so much to get the final bits.

and I would try and get most of it off as soon as possible...otherwise they start itching

I am still working on it with my just turned 4 yr old. She just potty trained this summer and just turned 4 on the 7th of this month. My biggest problem isn't her ability, it's her remembering to.

My ODD hated the thought of wiping her own butt. She refused until the summer before kindergarten and we made a deal that when school started she had to do it herself. My just turned 4yo DS hasn't shown any interest in doing it himself, and I really don't think he would be capable. I'll give him some more time but I definitely won't be wiping him as long as I did my DD. That went on way too long, lol.

DS is refusing to do it. I think I will just make him get a bath every night he refuses to do it (he normally gets baths about twice a week in the winter because he gets bad dry skin). Eventually he will learn right?

My oldest was 5, second was 5 (now he is 7 and still does a poor job), third was 2.

I have a friend who's DS who is 4, still runs out of the bathroom, pants around ankles and bends over yelling if his butts clean. It happens no matter who is over. I find it hilarious but not sure she is thrilled about it.

Mine were definitely wiping on their own by then. Even my not quite 3yr old tries to wipe herself if I don't catch her in time. She's not ready, though.
