What, specifically, makes the ai2 different so that just the soaker needs changing?

The shell of the AIO is lined with bamboo, so it's absorbent and needs to be washed each diaper change while the AI2 is lined with microfleece or athletic wicking jersey which isn't absorbent. I still recommend not using the AI2 shell more than 2-3 times before washing or it will get stinky.
