Prefolds - Cotton, Bamboo or Hemp

I'm currently using cotton prefolds at home and suspect my son's diaper rash might be caused by the urine directly on his skin. I also have a few Thirsties Hemp Prefolds and love them. They do seem to wick the moisture away from his skin A LOT more than the all cotton.
What's the story with the bamboo prefolds? Would a blend prefold be better for him than an all cotton? And if so, why wouldn't I do this rather than use a cotton prefold with a liner?
