Re: need ideas for cheap treats to make for family
Toffee!!! Made some today (covered with milk chocolate). Probably would have spent around $10 (but I already had everything) and I made two big batches

I just made skinny-taste's peppermint meringue recipe- fairly simple, makes a lot, only 3 ingredients (eggs, sugar, peppermint extract)

How about a flavored popcorn? You could make it up in advance and not be slaving away in the kitchen at crunch time.

Re: need ideas for cheap treats to make for family
Just made a batch of Candy Cane Crunch-
1 bag of light butter micro wave popcorn (full size) popped with kernels removed. Melt bag of white candy melts or 1/2 a package of almond bark according to package directions Crush 6 full size candy canes (I used the blender on "crushed ice") Pour the crushed candy cane over popcorn in a bowl, pour the white candy melts or almond bark over the top, stir- spread onto wax paper or a silpat lined cookie sheet to harden break into pieces- super fast really tasty, and pretty! |
