My preemie made his appearance this weekend. I will be exclusively pumping for him but hope to transition to exclusive breastfeeding him. My insurance will cover the cost of any pump at 80%.
Which should I get. I was thinking hospital grrade since we will be using it much. I am using the Medela Symphony in the hospital. Is the Ameda hospital grade better? The suction on the Symphony is not adjuatable as far as different patterns. Is t on the Ameda? Price is no option. I want the best pump so if we wind up pumping exclusively it lasts a long time. The only experience I have with a pump at home is the handheld Avent Isis. I have never used an electric pump. Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

Re: Medela Symphoy,Medela PIS, or Ameda
Hospital grade, hands down. I EPed for DS1 and went through 3 PIS and 2 single Medelas. The professional grade pumps are just not meant for that amount of pumping. I LOVED our symphony this time around and credit it to my awesome supply with DS2 this time around. Though I have a major oversupply and that's not that great now that he's EBF and gagging a lot lol.
If cost isn't an option, def. go with the hospital grade. But if you'll be pumping primarily in the hospital and they provide a pump, and it's cheaper to get the PISA for the few times you'll pump at home, then that could be a viable option too. But the hospitalgrade is the best for maintaining a supply. Also, I see on Medela's website that there's a preemie program with the symphony, you may want to ask your hossy about it. Congratson your new LO!!!

Hospital grade without a doubt. I ended up buying a lactina.
Preemies are different than newborns and you need to have things working as smoothly as they can in the pumping department. Do not scrimp (though my lactina was the same price as my PIS in the end). |

I never tried a hospital grade pump, but I loved my Medela Freestyle. I loved that it was small and could run off batteries.
