Filling up the Freezer?

Is anyone else planning on having a bunch of meals in the freezer before baby comes? I'm hoping to but am kinda low on ideas of what to make. I usually have lasagna, enchiladas, spaghetti sauce, chicken tetrazini, and sides like twice baked potatoes and muffins made up. Do any of you mamas have some good ideas of main dishes that freeze well?

Here's the link to the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/251496724960675/

And yes, I'm planning on it. I think I'll starting cooking one a week or so pretty soon. Then I'll have about 14 meals in the fridge ready to go!

Re: Filling up the Freezer?

I had a ton in the freezer with DS, but this time around, I didnt know how essential itd be. I figured Id just make easy to make meals (e.g., chicken with veggies and rice, or easy casseroles), tell DH to order in, or have DH watch the kids for the 30-45 mins itll take to make dinner :-)!!

But I DID plan on making a HUGE trip to the grocery store around week 38/39 to fill up on ingredients for easy to make meals!

Re: Filling up the Freezer?

I am planning to start after the holidays as well, also a March mama trading ideas with our DDC. I will make a ton of soups as freezer meals, keeping internally warm helps you heal from birth so nice hot soup is awesome! I usually freeze Chicken Tortilla, Chicken and Dumplings, Chili and Tomato soup. Also planning on some breakfast dishes. Hop on over to our FB list and feel free to jump in

Re: Filling up the Freezer?

My mom and sister will be here on a saturday in January to help me stock the freezer. we've done it with each baby and even for my sister's kid a couple years ago - got about 30 meals in the freezer in one day with all that help. I haven't pulled up my lists of what we'll make though.

No, I'm not storing frozen meals, but I'm building my relationship with Papa John!

I hear you! I might make a few things in advance, but honestly I can't do much. I only have a small freezer. I keep a lot of frozen veggies in there usually, so throwing together a fast dinner isn't too hard. Minestrone soup, rice and beans, salads, pasta, breakfast for dinner...these can all be made from scratch (or mostly from scratch) with minimal work. DH may end up cooking a few things for the first week, and may bring home some takeout here and there for those rough days, but I just power through usually.

Cooking, I still do. Housecleaning, on the other hand.... My pre-baby prep most importantly includes a thorough house scrubbing because it will be awhile before that happens again!
