How many gifts for Christmas?

3. Good enough for Jesus is good enough for my kiddos Santa fills stockings and will sometimes have to add a little gift bag but thats it.

Dh and I do gifts but they are simple. For example this yr he is getting candles for his shop(he mentioned it would be nice) and Im waiting for a replacement coffee mug to come in(his favorite broke a couple wks back). He is going to make-or buy idk- me a rolling cart for the kitchen so I can have more counter space(Im always complaining about it lol).

I buy all year as I see things. My son has a good 40 items or more to go under the tree from Santa. Christmas is huge in our family. All the kids get lots of gifts from Santa.

I've never really counted. And it varies somewhat. They usually get gifts from family, so each will get 5, plus whatever my parents buy (mine were the only grandkids for a long time, so got a decent amount), plus whatever we buy.

We really have never focused on a certain number. And actually, I make sure we have gifts for family and then I look at the budget for us. Last year we really only got each child one thing, but they were large items (dollhouse, very large Lego set, and an iPod Touch). Several gifts that the kids open are for the whole family, not just them. We are big on games, so we almost always have at least 2 games for the family under the tree.

This year we're just getting them each one thing (might make it two and have one be a book, as they all love to read), plus stocking stuffers (they get food and one, maybe two little things in their stockings). I talked to my mom about not going overboard, either, so she bought them a telescope to share, plus a smaller something for each. I love to see the big pile of gifts under the tree, but the kids are losing touch with what Christmas is really about.

8 gifts for DD1, who is 3 (a hand-me-down keyboard, a used doll, clothes for the doll, 2 used DVDs, 2 books, and a dog-shaped hot dog slicer that's pretty funny), and a board book for DD2, who will be 4 months at Christmas. We spent about $60-70 on DD1 and $15 on DD2. Obviously we'll spend more on DD2 when she's bigger.

Where do you keep all those toys. I just went through my sons room before his birthday and picked out things to sell/ donate and it's still too cluttered. We're doing it again for Christmas also.

We don't go by # of toys, we go by budget. $75 each for our kids, $30 for our nephews, $25 for secret santas, $25 for our parents, $25 for eachother.

3, plus pajama's on Christmas Eve. I usually end up with more than 3 each after picking up good deals here and there at this time of year, but I just put the extra away for future gifts.

ETA: dh and I do not generally exchange gifts, but I did get him one this year.

We haven't counted. We did $100 per child. It ends up being 5-7 each.

My parents used to buy my sister and I joint gifts and it always worked out well. We were only two years apart so we played together anyway and you really don't need two Barbie houses and big stuff like that. This year my son has gone from being the only grandchild to being the oldest of three. My sister and I both had babies this year five weeks apart. My patents usually get my son a lot which kind of makes up for us not doing a lot but this year they said they're not doing Christmas. My sister had moved back in and they're supporting her and her new baby plus her fiance who makes more than my husband...so its kind of a disaster. I hope my dad gets him something at least. Lately they tend to make big promises and not follow through. I on the other hand tell my son openly that he can have x amount of toys from mommy and daddy and Santa will bring him a special one because good little boys aren't selfish. For my son it's more important to him that he gets the one toy that he wants than a lit of toys I think. LO I's only 3 months so she really doesn't know the difference. It's just nice to have things for baby's first Christmas.

This is what we do, although sometimes it is hard to stop with books. Santa generally brings them one item as well, plus their stocking. DH and I are pulling away from gifts, although we do plan what we need/want. He wanted some TV/computer system this year so he is getting that for a milestone birthday around Christmas and Christmas combined. He also needs a new winter coat, so he is shopping for that. I don't really need anything right now, but we need a new vacuum hose, so I think that might be my "Christmas gift." We do fill stockings for each other, though and help the children to choose something for each other and for the other parent.
