Re: Do you think the movie Shrek is appropriate for a 4 year old?
We all love that show, my DD was watching it at 2 and 3 yrs. I don't see any problems with it, maybe I'm missing something?

Re: Do you think the movie Shrek is appropriate for a 4 year old?
I'm not a fan of "stupid" humor, but that one for some reason doesn't bother me as much as something like sponge bob.
But if you are not comfortable with it, say something. They probably didn't realize |

) To me, that is totally uncalled for and completely unnecessary in a G rated movie. To me, that movie should be PG even though I really like it. But, I really am picky about what I let my kids watch. I try to relax with the grandparents, but I'm going to tell them they need to stick to G rated or something they have already seen. Even though I don't trust G rated movies, I know they are better than most and I usually approve. over. I didn't turn it off because my husband kept saying it was okay. But by the end of it, he had the same look on his face. Neither of us will EVER hesitate to turn off a movie again. Lesson learned. ![]() Quote:
![]() I might also start sending them with several options. We have Netflix. So, I can find a few movies for them to choose from and send them with those.

Re: Do you think the movie Shrek is appropriate for a 4 year old?
I have no problem with it. I had no idea so many think it isn't appropriate.
I have come to learn that DH and I are way more laid back on movies than the average DS mamma.

I have a problem with rude humor.
Sponge bob is banned from my house as well as most of those in that genre of cartoons. My neighbors 18 month old is obsessed with sponge bob and she thinks it's hilarious. Are either of us wrong? I don't think so we just parent differently. I would not be upset about the movie though. To older people who don't have kids cartoons equal kid friendly. I would gently say that you will provide something appropriate next time. |

Shrek has not been watched by any of the little people in this house. I don't think its appropriate, and certainly not at 4.

I once thought it would be good to put on for my 4 year old. I had never seen it but in one of the first scenes there is a torture chamber with an executioner (!!) and I had to do some quick thinking to explain that. Nothing goes over my kids heads and they ask about literally everything. Now I don't put anything on without watching it first. I don't think shrek is all that bad except that scene, but I would never put it on again.
I would be really upset about someone putting a show on for my kids without checking with me first.
