Already thinking about summer garden

We just sat down and had a garden planning day! We just planted some lettuce and peas in the ground and started some kale, cabbage, broccoli, peppers, and some other stuff I'm forgetting, indoors to transplant in February.

Has anyone heard of or tried wicking beds? We had some last year and had amazing luck with them. They wick the water so they continually water themselves, you only need to fill it about once every 2 weeks (or once every week in the summer if you live in a hot climate like I do). You make a raised bed, line it with something waterproof (like a pool liner, we also cut and caulked some of those corrugated plastic political signs), you put PVC with holes drilled in it along the bottom, then attach an elbo and have a bit of PVC coming straight up out of the top of the bed, put a layer of pea gravel down over the PVC, then fill with compost and soil. All of our veggies THRIVED in these beds. I'm going to make some wicking beds for an herb garden out front of our house this year, maybe a couple in back for some veggies near our fruit trees!
