Re: What shoes do you buy for your toddler/preschooler
Just a side PSA for those buying crocs for wide feet: I've now heard from a few foot drs that they can cause the foot to widen even further as they don't give the correct support to the sides of the foot. Can be problematic for younger kids wearing them often.

Re: What shoes do you buy for your toddler/preschooler
Eep! I'll have to talk to my doc about it. I don't know if my son's feet are wide or just fat on the top (which is how it appears, but I'm not an expert).

Re: What shoes do you buy for your toddler/preschooler
Merrell, Keen, Puma, Pediped, See Kai Run and Sperry are the brands I stick with. I've never been disappointed. Every time I look at Stride Rite shoes, they are heavy and not flexible, two huge deal breakers for me.

Re: What shoes do you buy for your toddler/preschooler
For new walkers, I recommend the SR Julian. It's thin leather for the body instead of suede, and is very flexible. We went through every shoe that had at Nordstrom and this one bent easily in the hand as well as on the foot.

I buy See Kai Run and Pedipeds for my youngest. DD wears Nike runners, since they seem to fit the best on her.

I actually love Giesswein slippers. They have a thin, rubber non-skid sole and a wool upper that closes with hook and loop. It was perfect for both of my 11-18 month kids.
I also have a pair of baby Uggs and that has a suede sole that gives nice feedback, and a pair of Soft Stars with a Vibram sole, that are fantastic but beyond what you want to spend.

Re: What shoes do you buy for your toddler/preschooler
I've only had an issue with the last pairs bought in sept. before that (in spring) they were fine. I think this is a pretty new issue -- you might start seeing less available used or more in play condition.
