In the State of Florida...

After you bring a newborn home (open or closed adoption), consent form signed, etc. What else is there to "do" to officially make the baby yours? Is there a further waiting period for some sort of finalization?

I'm not in FL, but there is a waiting time before you go to court to officially finalize your adoption. It seems to usually be between 2-9 months.

Did you have a homestudy? You can't do anything without that. Post placement, you have to have had the child in your care for at least 90 days before you can finalize (unless it is a relative or step-parent adoption.)

We had to have a follow-up with the social worker who did our homestudy around 90 days, she typed up the favorable report and then with that, our atty was able to petition for finalization (which happened VERY quickly once submitted.)

Not sure if this link will work but it has a lot of good info on the process.
