Re: Rhubarb
We grow it! Here, it is pretty hard to kill, really. We have transplanted rhubarb in the spring and in the fall. I think it is recommended to put the roots in the ground in the spring, but like I said, we cannot kill it here.

Re: Rhubarb
Thanks for your reply.
Can it withstand hot weather? We've just had (having) our hottest summer on record....my climbing beans hardly produced a thing, the strawberries gave us a couple of shriveled looking specimens here and there, my celery just about cooked while still on the plant and many tomatoes got sunscald. Gonna have to re-think my gardening strategy if summers continue this way. |

Re: Rhubarb
It seems to flourish here right before hot weather REALLY hits. I have 40-50 year old rhubarb plants and so they are huge (so leave lots of room)... I did learn 2 years ago to NOT over pick them! It will take them the next year to recoup and you won't get much. This year, ours should be back to normal and I learned you should only pick 1/3-1/2 the plant stalks.
Um, now I'm sooo excited to make a batch of rhubarb strawberry jam and pie!!! |

Yes, ours is generally done before the heat hits, and our heat is no where close to yours, OP. We love rhubarb crisp here!
