aww the video was really cute! Dang that's a long egg song. LOL I wouldn't mind that. Stupid Fred's gotta get into it over here.. He does this off key BAGOK!!! that drives me nuts. That egg's HUGE!! Wow!
Fodie, I don't know what to tell ya now. It's been staying in the 30's daytime temps here, dropping as low as 19 at night here and my girls are NOT pleased. Yesterday I got 10 eggs, today, 5. *sigh* I'm thinking they miss the straw in the nest boxes and on the floor, so I'm going to get a bale when I pick up chick starter tomorrow and hopefully that will inspire more laying. They're also going thru TONS of feed.

Ok that's what I thought but wasn't sure-sorry I'm nosey!!
We all have our CCW permits here also but I usually only carry outside the house. Sorry to say my buff had to go, DH went out to do the girls for me the other day and she could barely walk. That's the other one that was sickly in the fall but kinda made a turn around. I'm sure she's in a better place now.

We just hatched eggs out three days ago. I had to save the last three and they are going strong. I have a lot of ladies that are mad they can't get out of the coop because of the snow!

Re: ****January**** Chicken Moma chat thread. Join in the chat!
hi guys, have lurked for a while. we h have 23 hens 3 Rios and a lonely duck, h his late got destroyed by a snmapping turtle.... we are cold and snowy here, only 1 egg yesterday, had kids dust them today, not sure were sudden extreme drop in eggs, . was about 8-10 since cooler weather, dh put up a large tarp over run so I wonder if that is partial issue.
does any one use a bucket with nipples and a warmer to prevent freezing? it hardly gets emptied . and I wonder also if the issue is water related since pond froze this last week and they usually drink from the pond. water come s out of the nipples and I see them dribbling, but only gets half empty after nearly a week.

Welcome Moma! Glad you joined it.
The water issue would worry me. I have a 5ish gal waterer and it's emptied within 4 days if not refilled. I have a warmer under it. Could there be another sorce of water? I see mine eat snow, lol. Not sure if it's because it's their first or not? Have you had a chance to check the vent area for movement when they roost at night?

Jump right on in! It's the time of year that most of our hens are going to take a break from laying either from short daylight hours, moulting, or just plain COLD! However, like Sarah, I think there is a water issue and with no water, they won't lay. My hens can empty a 5 gal waterer in 3 days and I only have 15. Either yours don't know HOW to use the nipple waterer or don't want to. I would put another source of water down and quickly, like tonight. Most of our hens are going to increase their uptake of water due to less fresh forage as well and more dry pellets. There's a tut for a cheap water warmer here for a regular waterer: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/201...-under-10.html and here is a tut for a cheap big waterer like I use: http://homesteadrules.com/homemade-chicken-waterer/

I gave up. She's steady laying through her moult?! They had been going on 5 mins prior, I had to get the cam. That when The cat stopped singing. She chatters when they sing.
