Substitute for syrup on waffles???

We make homemade wheat waffles every Sunday.

They are amazing, and I have no intention to cut them out of my diet, EVER!

But the butter and syrup is causing me to go over my calorie limit (let say I LOVE syrup, as in a little waffle with my syrup)---

The syrup is a local one, its amazing, but I gotta find something that would be more diet friendly.

Suggestions?!?

Fresh fruit - dice bananas, strawberries, blueberries and add some walnuts.

Honey... But that's really not much 'better' than syrup

Blueberry syrup (1cup blueberries heated and mashed with just a bit of sweetener or sugar).

My husband uses peanut butter on his pancakes...

Agave syrup. I like it better than maple syrup.

I usually do fresh blueberries and a small amount of real maple syrup. I don't have waffles often enough, but when I do its real syrup, just in moderation

A little peanut butter goes a long way on waffles.

Re: Substitute for syrup on waffles???

We put applesauce on ours, it is sweet and no added sugar.

Applesauce, jam/jelly/preserves, peanut butter and honey (this is actually quite good, as it gives you protein to go with your carbs), or maple syrup in moderation. I have found that while I love drowning my pancakes in maple syrup, I don't need them with that much in order to enjoy them.
