Re: What temp do you medicate?

I try not to medicate. The body needs to run a fever to fight off infection. The more I medicate, the longer the illness IME. Almost never under 103. Above 103 I will medicate if my child is really lethargic, has chills, etc. I also would prefer not to medicate because if I do, then my child is feeling better and does not want to rest, which is what she needs most.

Never ever. I may give homeopathy for specific symptoms but have never given fever reducers

We don't typically medicate because of how hi the fever is but more based on how they are feeling acting. My LOs are prone to hi fevers especially my YDS (has had them as hi as 105.3), he can have a fairly hi fever and still act relatively nornal. When we do medicate they are hard to bring down so it usually takes a combination of tylenol and Motrin.

Re: What temp do you medicate?

I usually medicate above 100 unless kiddo is acting miserable, and then I medicate lower. We start with Motrin to help with the body aches. IMO, the medication doesn't prolong the illness that much, if any, so kiddo might as well be more comfortable. I do the same for myself, as well. I don't see enough risk by medicating to warrant avoiding the benefits of being more comfortable.

I used to medicate a lot for teething and pain from ear infections, but we are much more judicious with Tylenol/ibuprofen now. Generally a fever above 101 or 102, or if DS is super uncomfortable.

Re: What temp do you medicate?

I medicate in the case of fever and uncomfortable behavior. I will also medicate if the child tells me they feel bad or something hurts. I would not stay uncomfortable or feverish, so I will not leave my kids in that state either. I am glad my kids are rarely ever sick enough to need meds, but when they do, I am happy to dish them out for their sake.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems like a lot of different opinions on when. Ds2 has had a fever all week from 101-103.5. Thursday it seemed to have gone away. Took him to daycare friday and picked him up with another fever. It was 101.6 and I wanted to see how he would be and were it puke go before I gave him anything. Finally around 10 I made the decision to take him to the er and got chewed out for not medicating him at 101. Was told he could seize with that temp blah blah blah. I'm really frustrated with the whole thing. They double dosed him with Motrin and Tylenol.
