Drinking while breastfeeding?
I am just curious. I am not a big drinker and don't plan on becoming one any time soon. I am just curious about drinking while bfing. Would it be safer to formula feed if you are a heavy drinker or is it safe to drink while bfing. I mean someone who drinks a lot and can't just pump if they are going to drink that day. To be clear this is just out of curiosity thanks guys!

I have had drinks. I make them weak, never get buzzed, and have only one per hour if I plan to still nurse. They also make strips to test your milk to be sure none is in it. I will not nurse if I plan to get a glow on.

ETA: I don't drink at all, not even a toast or a glass of wine while pregnant.

Re: Drinking while breastfeeding?
I don't drink. It's a waste of breastmilk for me, personally. Having a drink or two is not worth wasting my baby's food. Heavy drinking is not an option, ever, so I don't know about that... but I would say that it'd be better to just stop breastfeeding if someone is a heavy drinker.

I drink on occassion. Never so much I would have to pump and dump. Usually I nurse in then have a drink when I know that I have several hours before nursing again. (This when I was nursing more often. Now I only nurse a couple times. Day)

Re: Drinking while breastfeeding?
I occasionally have a glass of wine or a drink with DH after the kids go to bed. I have never pumped and dumped.

Like I said I don't drink. I was just curious about if an alcoholic with a baby should breast or formula feed.
