Drinking while breastfeeding?

If she's too drunk to hold the baby she's too drunk to feed the baby with a bottle or at the breast. Her bac is the same that would be in the milk.

It is not safe to be a heavy drinker while BFing. Lots of good info up here already. I'm not a huge drinker either, so I just don't drink while BFing because it makes me uncomfortable generally.

Here's a scenario. Say I feed baby at 4:00 or 4:30pm, then go to dinner around 5pm. If I were to have a daiquiri, say between 5:15 and 5:45, then had to nurse baby around 6 or 6:30pm, would that be safe? I would think no, and that's why I haven't done it, but I've heard many times that as long as you don't feel the affects its safe and similar things.

I would say yes, it's safe. As long ad you were only having one drink plus the fact that you are eating food. I regularly drink wine before, during, or after nursing. (regularly as in one glass of wine per week) Only one glass is fine Imo. I have never pumped and dumped and have never had a problem.

I've never been a big drinker so I just don't drink at all while breastfeeding. My LC said it was fine to drink a little every now and then but I'm just too paranoid to do it.

my dr told me its ok if you drink very lightly. No need to pump and dump. I've had a beer and bf am hr later. I'm always very well hydrated and eat around the time I have my much deserved beer.

My LC said as long as you don't feel the effects, meaning the alcohol isn't in your blood stream, it isn't in your milk. Eating with a drink helps a lot. If I do feel the effects I'll let dh know and he'll feed her with some frozen breast milk while I pump and dump. I felt more secure with drinking beer or wine than hard spirts for some reason, I'm not really sure why.

This. I've always been told by LCs to think of it like drinking and driving. If you've had too much and think you shouldn't drive, than don't feed.
