19 week stillbirth...what to expect?
We found this morning at our 19 week anatomy scan our baby passed just before Christmas around 14-15 weeks.
I have an appointment shortly to talk options with the OBGYN registrar. I know I will have to go through L&D and that process will probably happen in a few days. This is the first time I have gone through this as all my other losses have been in the first trimester. I am pretty numb right now. What else can I expect?

Oh Helen you are in my prayers. Something like this happened to my sister and she was induced and delivered afterwards.

Re: 19 week stillbirth...what to expect?
I'm really so sorry for your loss.
![]() I went through L&D last November with my m/c at 15w. They started the process around 12:30 PM by inserting 6 Cervadil to soften my cervix. The contractions were tolerable (for me) without any pain medication. Nothing worse than monthly cramp-like feeling. Around 7 PM they placed 4 more Cervadil rectally. I was dilated to about a 8. My OB didn't want the amniotic fluid to wash out the latest dose of Cervadil since they needed me to contract to deliver the placenta, hence the rectal insertion. My water broke at 7:39 PM and I delivered our son at the same time. No pushing needed since he was so small. It took about an hour to deliver the placenta. I did have to work at that part, pushing with the contractions. They wrapped our son in a teeny tiny knit bunting and wrapped him in a blanket. We got to spend as much time with him as we wanted/needed. The RNs weighed him and measured him and even got some teeny tiny footprints for us. We also had him baptized. I was discharged around midnight. I was so overwhelmed with everything that we didn't have a funeral or anything like that. I didn't know that many funeral homes offer this service free to those that have had a stillbirth/miscarriage. We let the hospital take our son instead, placing him with the other babies who had been lost. I never asked what they did with them. I don't really want to know or think about it. I did have complications about a month later (hemorrhaging, leading to a d&c), but I don't think that's the norm. Many prayers to you, mama.
