DS1 is in kindy and missed 7 days for vacation, but it was prearranged and we did an independent study contract so we had all his classwork work done by the day he returned. I believe that they actually marked him as present those days because of the independent study contract.

Other than that, he hasn't missed any school. The rule when I was growing up is that if you're too sick for school, you're too sick to play. Any claims that he doesn't feel well have been immediately rescinded when I remind him that staying home sick means staying in bed all day. No computer, no laptop, no iPad.

Obviously, he would stay home for a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or anything of that nature.

DS is in 8th grade and has had I think 3 years with perfect attendance, but usually only misses one or two days at most per semester. About 6 years ago he missed about a week b/c we all had influenza. He likes going to school, so he never pretends to be sick. He only stays home if he is REALLY sick.

We homeschool but DD has missed 1 day because she was sick. Also kindergarten is not required in Texas.

It sounds like he just needs to build up his immunity. If he wasn't out and about a lot before starting school and no preschool experience then it is normal for his immunity to need to be built up.

My son is in Kinder as well. At his school you can't be out more than 10 days without having to repeat the grade. So far we have missed 1 day because of leaving a day early for a vacation out of state.

Well if he's sick he's sick. There really isn't much you can do.

My dd was always in daycare and is how in gr3 and I doubt she's missed 5 days since kindergarten. She's just really healthy.

A friend of her's though was also at daycare but she misses a lot of school. Although secretly, I think she's faking and her mom is a bit of a pushover ! Lol!

We're taking them out of school for 6 days in March to go to Hawaii. It's not a big deal here but in all honestly, you guys seem to have a LOT of rules about these things in the US!
