sick baby stumps dr;s

my 6 week old baby had red cheeks since sunday. tuesday they swell and are very hot. then i notice they are hard. she cant nurse properly they are so swollen and hard. the hospital says it is an infection and they have never seen anything like this before. they are very hard that is the weird part. any advice?

are they doing blood tests?

maybe an allergic reaction to something?

no they didnt. just antibiotics. its not flaming red hot and swollen anymore just hard

How strange! Is it her lymph nodes? Poor little baby, I hope she's able to nurse okay.

i'm sure this is the most obvious thing they would check: Mumps!

I really hope they did check for mumps! But you know it is fairly rare these days so who knows, maybe they haven't actually seen it before?

Mumps was my first thought too. Unless the doc is in their late 50's or older, they may have never seen mumps.

Mumps was rare, but it's coming back big time. I notice in OPs siggy that she selectively vax's. No judgement, but OP if you've been skipping the MMR vaccine for your older kids or spend time with other families who don't do MMR, that might explain your little one catching mumps (if that's what it turns out to be). Definitely find a physician who knows what the mumps look like and can monitor her properly.
