Diaphragm
So DH and I used a diaphragm early on before kids with no problems. Now that we have three and are wanting to wait, I feel a bit afraid of the percentages of failures. I know how to use it properly (spermicide). Aside from using FAM to avoid when it seems likely that I'm ovulating, are there other things I can use with it?
I don't mean condoms (what would be the point of the diaphragm if we were going to use condoms too). I absolutely cannot use hormones and had an IUD fall out after 30 days, so hesitant to get another one. I just suddenly feel VERY freaked out and afraid. KWIM? Anything natural that might help us stay baby free for a few years?

Re: Diaphragm
I was just coming on here to find out from those who've used diaphrams. I was always thinking that I could never reach up in there to put it in but I use a lady cup now so I'm reaching in anyway lol. What can you tell me about them. I don't want hormonal bc and condoms, well, they are what they are and dh doesn't really like them. I'm not ready to add to the chaos yet with another baby.

I have one....
One the effectiveness is not all that great, even with spermicide. There are 6-18 pregnancies per 100 women per year. Putting it in is easy, but they are large and can be felt, they also have to be left in your vagina for 6-8 hours post sex, which sucks. It starts to burn and hurt, and for me it pushed on my bladder towards the end of 6 hours and felt awful. You have to use a ton of spermicide, you need to fill the cup with it and line the rim, then insert (which is messy). Taking it out is not very fun either, it's just messy. One tube of spermicide only lasted a week for us (we Dtd 5-6 nights a week) I wouldn't recommend it for regular use, and def. not if you are not open to another baby.

Re: Diaphragm
Inplannon? Depo? Patch? Patch fell off & I never had another replacement.... I couldn't remember to take pills well. I'm thinking iud- paRagaurd as I got heavier with hormones...too much weight than I would like. I don't like thought of something under my skin..... never really used condoms but seems kind a wasteful as the cost & dtd & how many one would need & they expire & faults in them..... vas or historectomy option if finished with kids for good..... I think we are good after boy joins us. I don't know how many more I could take esp if we were down as guardians for kids.... I'm alone at nights so I don't think I could handle more.... not sure how u moms with 4 plus do it esp if u have hubbys deployed or something like that.....

Re: Diaphragm
There was another thread on here about post baby birth control, and the women who were using the diaphragms found them pretty good to use. If they hurt, then you might have the wrong size, or maybe the wrong kind of spermicide? Apparently you shouldn't feel it at all when it's in. Also, for what it's worth, you can make your own spermicide, I've heard, which would reduce the cost.
Here's the thread: http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/....php?t=1481236 Also, the failure rate ranges from 1% with perfect use, 10% with average use - it's not that bad if you use it properly. Condoms have an average failure rate of 15%. Don't give up on that option yet - look into it a little further, I'd say.

They have to be sized by your OB, mine is the correct size, and I meant my husband could feel it during intercourse, and after having something in my vagina for 8 hours its quite uncomfortable. It's a huge hassle IMO. If you are ok with another baby, or don't mind inserting and removing and using spermicide sure it can be a good non hormonal birth control option, but it is not for everyone. They also have to be resized after pregnancy and weight loss of 10-20 pounds.

All between 5-20 percent effective.
